The Adventures and Musings of 2 BFFs Separated by a Continent

Pat’s Run 17 April 2010

Today is the Pat’s Run in Tempe and San Jose. The Greater Philadelphia ASU Alumni Chapter hosted our second annual Shadow Run.

Remembering 42

We had about 25 runners, including a large group of veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA).

The sun came out just long enough for the 4.2 mile run along the towpath in Manayunk. It was awesome to see the pack of maroon shirts moving down the trail.

The first runner came in at 36 minutes. But it was a fun run, not a timed run with prizes. (Though the ten year-old who ran the whole way with his Vet dad totally deserves one!) We hope to expand every year, and the Alum who owns Machismo Burrito said the town would love to make it a big deal and shut down Main Street for the morning! Sweet.

What a great day! RIP, Pat.

OMG I am a horrible, horrible pet owner.

Two years ago I bought an electric haircutting razor to trim Lily‘s hair in the spring and summer. At first she hated it, but each time it’s better.

Today she did really good. I even got to get at her “bib” which is the longest hair in her body. I did this like four hours ago but just noticed that I CUT HER WHISKERS.

At first I was mortified because I read that is supposed to hurt. I was like, “I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry!” She seems okay.

And then I started laughing hysterically. I hope you can see how silly the whiskers look in this picture!

I’m sorry, Lily!

A Year in the Merde 2 April 2010

We are definitely living in the wrong country. From p. 29, when the waiters go on strike in the middle of lunch:

I saw that I was witnessing an important lesson in Parisian life: I mustn’t try to make people like me. That’s much too English. You’ve got to show them that you don’t give a shit what they think. Only then will you get what you want. I’d been doing it all wrong, trying to win people over. If you smile too much, they think you’re retarded.

Is that like not looking a dog in the eye to exert yourself as the alpha dog? 😉 And do you think teachers could get away with this “I don’t care what you think of me” attitude? Because it’s surely not working here.
